If you’re heading to the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, I’d recommend staying at Sanbis Resort (pictured below), about a 10 minute boat ride from the provincial capital, Gizo. Simple, clean, modern bungalows, stylish, boutique decore, good food and great location midway between everything you’d want to see and do in the area – island hopping, snorkelling, diving, surfing, local markets etc. The overwater restaurant is the perfect place for a leisurely breakfast or a long lunch, watching the boat traffic pass by in the distance. Hans is the host/owner. Nice guy, with an eye for detail when it comes to the decore (though the pink pool cue did nothing for his game). He was sailing past several years ago, fell in love with the place and has been there ever since. Hans plans to grow the resort by building a few more bungalows (maybe, as a suggestion, one or two with air conditioning for the few nights when the sea breeze isn’t happening) but, at this stage, it remains intimate and welcoming – a fine place to base yourself, kick back and relax. " I Blog because I enjoy writing; If I wasn't doing it here, I'd be doing it somewhere else. It disciplines my thinking, it helps crystallize my thoughts and it relaxes me. The fact that other people may read and enjoy it, is icing on the cake."
" What is written here is a personal journey into the pictures I like most, the issues I'm most passionate about, the places I've enjoyed visiting and my desire to teach aspiring travel photographers how to build on their ability to produce art and exceptional images. For those who are interested, it's also an insight into the sometimes glamorous, frequently challenging, often frustrating but hugely satisfying world of the professional travel photographer."
